Every single time I take a step forward in publishing this book, I literally have to stop for a moment to calm my nerves. Yes, it’s becoming more and more real, and I cannot wait for everyone to read it. I’ve had this story in my head for such a long time, gotten stuck on certain chapters, and felt what the characters felt. I trudged through this journey with them and that’s why I will always feel like this book… my first book… will always be a part of me. With all that said, I always knew how I wanted this book to end. Or, rather, how I wanted the NEXT one to begin.
OF LIGHT AND FIRE will be the first installment of a three part series. This one will be from the perspective of Elijah – the long time Sicarri brother/demon hunter. Soon I’ll have the cover for the next book IN SMOKE AND RUINS, and I can’t wait to share that with you all!
In my last post, I let you guys in on a little bit of the prologue, and I promised to give you a sneak peek into Elijah’s dreams… well, nightmares. Serious nightmares that have plagued him for a lifetime and seep their way into every aspect of his life. Nightmares he can’t shake. Here is an UNEDITED, UNTOUCHED, COMPLETELY RAW piece from the prologue – a peek into Elijah’s dreams. I hope you take it for what it is, and try not to notice the unpolished edges of my writing.
Lately my nightmares have always been the same. It begins with a building burning a few yards in front of me, a distant memory distorted by my twisted imagination. The flames are so close that I can feel the heat radiate around my body. Sweat begins to bead on my forehead, and I get that strange hot and cold sensation like I’ve suddenly come down with a high fever. Without warning, my arms become itchy and I have to fight the urge to tear the flesh from my body in order to free myself from the sensation. I look down and see the skin on my forearms burning and peeling back, exposing the muscles, sinews, and bones in my arms. The pain is excruciating and it hits me all at once. It’s so powerful that I become numb and unable to move as I succumb to the agony. The utter horror of of what I see and feeling myself burn alive is ingrained in my brain more than my own name. Right before I wake… every single time, I see the Demons who set me on fire standing like shadows in the distance. I try in vain not to hear their disembodied laughter in the darkness that overtakes me.
